New foods for Christopher

So Christopher is about 7 1/2 months old. He can start on solids. Solids scare the "you know what" out of me. They can be a choking hazard if he isn't ready. So I started with puffs...

Puffs are pretty much little fruit flavored cereal bits that dissolve fairly easy. Junior LOVES them. The bonus of these is that he gets to practice his pincer grasp. Picking up small things with his fingers. He's getting very good at this. He isn't as good at it when it sticks to the inside of his palm and nothing will get it off. Kinda cute to watch him shaking his hand around trying to get it off.

So he's had puffs. I'm planning on trying him on peas and green beans cut up this week. Tonight, he had a few tiny pieces of pasta. He seemed to like them. Tiny, as in smaller than your pinky nail. I told David, it won't be long before he's just eating our dinner cut up on his tray.

He has also had Mum Mums. Pretty much a rice cracker, dissolves fairly easy. He LOVES these and had one in church today.

Junior is also teething pretty bad. I can see a little white line but it seems like he's been "within a few days" of them cutting for a week now. Can't wait...

So I made baby food today...

So I decided that in order to earn my next mommy badge, I had to at least attempt homemade baby food. I bought everything Friday after work and decided to start with Carrots and Apples. Easy stuff.

I started with steaming the carrots...

then steaming the apples...

Puree...

Put into ice cub trays...

then freeze. This is 2 of the 4 trays stacked in the freezer.

Junior already tried a bit of the apple and seemed to like it. Each cube is supposed to be 1 oz. So the second stage jars he's been eating are about 4 oz so it would be 4 cubes per jar.

David asked why, I said... money. A 4 oz jar costs about $.70 (on sale). I made 4 trays of food. 16 cubes each, so 64 cubes at 1 oz each. I made 64 oz of carrots and apple sauce combined. Or 16 jars of stage 2 food (4 oz each). The 16 jars would be about $11.20 total (on sale). I spent about $3.00 on the carrots and apples, maybe $4.00. SAVINGS people!!!

We'll see if I keep it up, but it was fun and fairly easy. Now, once they are frozen through, I take them out of the trays, bag the cubes and label. Take out what I want, defrost and voila!

Random Item...

So I found this in my office when I was cleaning a few months ago. Some of you may recognize this as having taken up most of the space in your console in your car years ago.

To give you an idea of size, it's about 13" tall (including the antenna)and the body is about 2"x2"round. It weight probably close to 1 pound.

And apparently, they ONLY made them for the wonderful state of California.

Daddy's First Daddy's Day Present

We are new homeowners and new parents. Thus, it is the little things in life that make us happy and make tedious chores easier. So I present to you... David's first (and hopefully not last) Daddy's Day gift.

A Craftsman, gas powered, 6.25 Gold Series Engine, 190cc, 3 in 1 deck for bagging, mulching, and side discharge and 12" high rear wheels LAWNMOWER!

I, Mommy (or Mama as Junior has started to whine when he's upset), helped Grandpa Angelo pick it out. Yes, I paid attention when David was dragging me down the lawn products aisle at Home Depot just enough to know what he wanted.

Now you ask, it's not Father's Day, why now?

Have you ever tried to surprise David? Yes.. it's hard. We thought it would go over better by doing it early.

So... HAPPY EARLY FATHER'S DAY DADDY!!!

We love you :)

7 Month Old Shots

We of course take shots at every "month" birthday. Here are the best... and some out takes from the day.

Our little pumpkin is 7 months old... I can't believe it!

As he gets older, Christopher is much more aware and interested in his surroundings. Including my little sign.

And now that he can move easier, he doesn't always stay where I put him. Ok, never. These photos became a team effort.

and then it's time for distraction...

Junior tries out the sippy cup

So we gave Junior his sippy cup for the first time. I think he just thinks it's a really cool teething toy that happens to have his name on it.

We started well, he was very interested.

He started to sip on it...

and it quickly turned into a teething toy...

But he sure did look cute in his outfit...

We will keep at the sippy cup and see how it goes.

Mother's Day

I know this post is late... but I didn't have the blog then :)

My first Mother's Day was wonderful. David made breakfast at home, we went to church, then we headed over to Monterey. Mom (Grandma) and I went to a little spa time while the guys (David, Grandpa and Junior) stayed home and made dinner. It was delicous as usual (Grandpa's marinade, Dad's BBQing)

Some photos

So, it looks like we almost have a crawler on our hands. He has started to move forward by going backwards. He can get up on all fours, moves his knees like he is going to crawl, however, doesn't realize he needs to move his hands too and face plants. I think we are going to have an un-stoppable child before long.

I think we might also have 1 (or 2) teeth coming very very soon. LOTS of drooling, LOTS of teething, and a little fussier.

We will let you know when the tooth comes and the official crawling begins. Here's a photo that David took.
